In 1968, Dick Kantner, an aerospace Engineer backed with nearly 20 years of experience developed and manufactured composite aerospace and recreational parts.
In addition to the numerous aerospace components, he designed some of the first graphite arrow shafts, golf shafts, bicycle frames and tennis rackets.
In the mid 1970’s he focused his engineering skills on the fishing industry:
He designed and manufactured a superior line of Boron/Graphite blend rod blanks.
These “Boron Action” rods incorporated the best manufacturing techniques and materials available at the time and pioneered the “Dual Helix” manufacturing process.
Today Hastings Rod Manufacturing continues to lead the industry with our “Dual Helix”.

Hastings Rod Manufacturing started with one line of Rod Blanks “Graphite USA”.
In 2003, introduced another line of revolutionary rod blanks named “United Rods”.
In 2004, Hastings Rod Manufacturing introduces a band new series of rod blanks to the line-up of United Rods, the “Pioneer Series”.
2005 sees the arrivals of even more new Series: the Graphite-USA "Advantage" and the United "Challenger" Series

DUAL HELIX FACTS

Hastings Rod Manufacturing's proprietary "Dual Helix" ply construction produces a rod blank that has outstanding resistance to both crushing and twisting.
Unique construction technique, adapted from our experience in aerospace activities, is superior to the conventional rod blank roll-wrap manufacturing process adopted years ago from the textile industry.
Two advantages are readily apparent:
  • Firstly, the Dual Helix structure keeps the rod round when heavily loaded during casting or fighting a hooked fish. The Dual Helix construction adds extraordinary crush and nick resistance.
  • The second major advantage is the outstanding resistance to twist imparted to the blank through the Dual Helix design.

    WHICH SERIES IS BEST ?

    Due to the materials and the construction techniques used, Pioneer, Challenger, Advantage , United and Graphite-USA blanks and rods have a different actions.
    Overall, Pioneer and United blanks and rods have a faster tip than the comparable model in Graphite-USA.
    Fishing techniques between fast tip and more parabolic rods are slightly different. Which is better depends on personal preference.
    If you are getting a custom rod made, be aware that your unfinished blank will feel much different than your finished custom rod!
